William Graham (1923-2011)

William Graham grew up in the Scottish Borders .  His art education started in 1948 at Heatherleys, London after being demobilised from the R.A.F.  After a year, he moved to the Central School of Arts & Crafts Southampton Row, London for four years studying drawing & painting and mural painting as craft.  He earned his living teaching and part-time painting, first at evening classes and later at the Stanhope Institute, Queen Square.  William Graham also did free-lance work as a mural painter mainly for interior designs.   William Graham lived in Winchester for the last twenty years and passed away at the age of over 90 in December 2011.   His unique soft palet and his subject matters are inspired by Bonnard, the early works of Picasso and Toulouse-Lautrec.   He had the ability to paint a world that is no longer and his talent in painting in oil enables us to feel the nostalgia of the artist for these lost times.
